Medallion (Campania)

  • Confraternity of the Cinturati of Santa Maria del Soccorso

The pectoral medallion was made in the 1700s. It is in pure silver and shows the hand-chiselled image of the Madonna della Cintura holding the Infant Jesus in her arms in the act of handing the belts to Sant'Agostino and Santa Monica. The frame of the medallions is also hand-chiseled and features a floral motif. At the base of each medallion there is a gold thread bow. The medallion is hung around the neck with a red cord to depict the martyrdom, as this Confraternity is also the keeper of the mortal remains of San Liberato Martire.
