Brief description of the work and author profile: The seventeenth-century image belongs to the group of the 4 Sorrowful Mysteries which represent the original nucleus of the procession of the Mysteries, organized  from the Archconfraternity starting from 1714. The praying figure, with folded hands and kneeling, lets the gaze sink into infinity, summarizing, in the disarming simplicity of the gesture, the awareness of the impending passion and the convinced adherence to the project of salvation.
