Brief description of the work and author profile: A suggestive triptych completes the cycle of the Sorrowful Mysteries: it includes the images of Jesus Crucified, the Virgin of Sorrows and St. John. The statuary group, created in the second half of the nineteenth century, reproduces the pathetic encounter on Mount Calvary and draws expressive strength from the effectiveness of the scenic representation which, through the synthesis of looks and movements, establishes a silent conversation between the three images. John, mediating figure between the two creatures of divine nature: the Crucifix and the Addolorata, stands to the right of the cross to merge, through his gaze directed at Christ and his hands stretched out towards the Virgin, the mystery of the Passion with the eschatological meaning of sacrifice.
